Dr. Modak received
her Ph.D. from the University of Bombay, India. She is a research scientist in the Dept.
of Surgery, Columbia university .
Her main research focus is on
infection control. She has been in the area of research and
development of topical creams, hand and surgical disinfectant and
infection resistant medical devices for the past 25 years.
Dr. Modak’s research effort has
resulted in the development of healthcare and surgical hand
sanitzers, anti-irritant, anti-microbial topical creams and antiseptic
coated central venous catheters and soft tissue patches. Surgical
hand sanitizer (Surgicept), catheters ( arrowgard plus)and soft
tissue patches (Gore DualMesh+) developed in her laboratory are in
clinical use in US and abroad. She has more than 70 publications and
15 patents .
